The Journeys

This video is about the journeys we take in life. I wrote the song a while ago and decided to put a video to it. Some journeys will be longer than others, some will be not the one we wanted but it is the experience that teaches us so much.

Born in Belfast I emigrated to Australia and spent most of my life in Sydney. I lived on the Northern Beaches there but as life moved on we then lived between Northern Ireland and Australia. It is now fantastic to see how Belfast has become a great City for culture and entertainment and is one of the most visited cities in Europe.

I have always had a great affinity with America as my Mum's parents, her sister and brother moved there after the war. There were many Americans stationed in Northern Ireland preparing for the D. Day landings.  A lot of girls met their future husbands at the dances and became American war brides after the war. My father had been a regular solider in the British Army and lost his sight in one eye. After the war he was content to spend the rest of his life in Northern Ireland. I loved traveling and have met so many interesting people in life by doing that. I once took a Greyhound bus around America and thought I was going on a scenic tour. It all started with a Simon and Garfunkle song called America. It was a very different experience  to what I expected but one I will always remember. If I hadn't gone to Australia I may have ended up in America with my Mum''s family but we had a great life on Sydneys Northern Beaches. With everyone's journeys life changes and we move on to the next stage and nothing stays the same forever. I wouldn't have liked to have sat back and regretted that I had never taken the chances that were given to me as we learn by our mistakes. It is the fear of the unknown that stops us but better to have failed than not try at all.  We had a promotional merchandising company in Sydney called the Promotional Shop that supplied merchandise to major companies like Toyota ,Amex etc while  I also played in bands, so it was always a busy life.   It was in Australia I started to take an interest in the Scots Irish history and their immigration to America. Why we we wern't taught the history in schools I have no idea as it is more relevant to who we are than most of the history they did teach us. Maybe it was seen to be anti British and in Catholic schools they were only interested in the immigration from after the famine. kids would have loved reading books about Davy Crockett, indians and wagon trains!

Flags Of Our Fathers

If people were not prepared to join the services we would not enjoy the freedom we have today, Wars are caused by Politicians and big money interest like the Illegal war Tony Blair and the Labour Party took us into. This video is my thanks to all our men and women serving.

  • The Journeys is a collection of songs I have written over the years that tell the stories of the journeys of the Scots Irish, the Ulster Division's journey to the Somme and a collection of other journeys.

I put together the video so we never forget the sacrifice the medical stall around the world made to keep us safe. This dreadful virus from China has changed life for everyone.
